Marquinhos made history in French football once again. The central defender has won his 11th Ligue 1 title, which is more than any other club in France, including AS Saint-Etienne and Marseille.
Marquinhos continues to write his legend at PSG. On Wednesday night, after the victory at Lens (0-2), the Brazilian further expanded his impressive trophy collection. The central defender secured his 11th Ligue 1 title.
The statistic is enormous, especially when compared to the trophy cabinets of other teams. Simply put, no other French club has as many titles in the French championship.
The most successful clubs behind the Parc des Princes resident (14) are Saint-Etienne (10) and Marseille (9), while Monaco and Nantes are further behind, with 8 French championship titles each.
That shows the achievement of Marquinhos, who, in all competitions, has a total of 37 titles with PSG. Including that famous Champions League trophy he chased for years. That is also the reason why the former Roma player, who arrived in the French capital in 2013, could not hold back his tears during last season's final against Inter Milan.
Suffice it to say that the emotion would still be visible in the event of a second consecutive title in the final against Arsenal on May 30. It may perhaps be his last feat with the Parisians, as his future seems more uncertain than ever.
It is true that Marquinhos has often been announced as leaving in recent years. But the persistent rumors, as well as his management in Ligue 1 (only 13 matches this season, 10 of them as a starter), suggest that the Brazilian international is heading toward the end of his incredible adventure.
