Officially crowned French champions on Wednesday night after their victory over Lens at Bollaert, PSG does not know whether it will be able to properly celebrate its new Ligue 1 trophy.
On Wednesday, thanks to their fine 2-0 win on the field of their runner-up, Lens, the capital club was officially crowned French champion for the 14th time in its history. But unlike previous seasons, when PSG was champion well before the end, Paris had to wait until the final days of the season to secure its Ligue 1 title.
This will pose a real logistical problem, as the champion club does not yet know if it will be able to receive and celebrate its title. Simply because PSG will not play its final matchday at the Parc des Princes, but a few meters away, at the Stade Jean-Bouin.
Organizer of the trophy presentation ceremony, the LFP officially asked Paris FC if it was possible to organize PSG's celebration on its field at the final whistle of the match. But the second Parisian club simply refused this request, as PFC had already planned festivities with its supporters to celebrate staying in Ligue 1 and pay tribute to some departing players, such as Julien Lopez.
Faced with this categorical refusal from PFC, PSG asked to organize the title celebration at the Parc des Princes, a few meters away. However, according to Le Parisien, the Paris police prefecture refused this proposal to allow supporters to gather around 11 p.m. at the Parc des Princes. All for security and organizational reasons for both stadiums at the same time.
So, will PSG be able to celebrate its French champion title before May 30? The question remains unanswered for now. In any case, Luis Enrique's players plan to gather in Paris after the match against PFC to celebrate this new Ligue 1 trophy together.
After this celebration, the Parisian group will get back to work to best prepare for its new Champions League final against Arsenal, scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
