After being ejected in Game 4, Victor Wembanyama didn’t hold back in Game 5 on Tuesday. In the first six minutes, Wembanyama scored 16 points, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. This is the San Antonio Spurs’ look to take control of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The series is tied at 2-2. In Game 4, Wembanyama was ejected from the game after elbowing Naz Reid in the chin. Wembanyama finished with 4 points and 4 rebounds in just 12 minutes. Afterward, the Spurs lost 114-109, and the Timberwolves got back into the series.
Undoubtedly, the Spurs are banking on Wembanyama’s dominance to get them through and square off against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
So far, Wembanyama has lived up to being the dominant force for the Spurs throughout this postseason. In Game 1 against the Timberwolves, Wembanyama recorded an NBA Playoff record 12 blocks to go along with 11 points and 15 rebounds, despite a 104-102 loss.
Then, he came away with 39 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks in Game 3 as San Antonio won 115-108.
In Game 1 of the first round against the Portland Trail Blazers, he scored 35 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 111-98 victory. In Game 4, he came back from a concussion that had kept him out in Game 3. He scored 27 points and 12 rebounds in a 114-93 win.
Overall, Wembanyama is averaging 19.6 points and 10.5 rebounds per game during this postseason.
The series will head back to the Target Center in Minneapolis for Game 6 on Friday. Then, Game 7, if necessary, will be at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Sunday
