A field of 14 3-year-olds has assembled for the $2 million Preakness Stakes at 1 3/16 miles on May 16.
The 151st Preakness Stakes will be run at Laurel Park in Laurel, Md., this year, while Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore is being reconstructed. Only 4,800 fans will be allowed into the grandstand to witness the middle leg of the 2026 Triple Crown when it ends at the first finish line of the Laurel Park stretch.
Post time for the Preakness is scheduled for 7:01 p.m. (all times Eastern) on a 14-race card, including eight graded stakes, that gets under way at 10:30 a.m. NBC and Peacock will televise the Preakness during a 4-7:30 p.m. telecast that follows three hours of Peacock coverage (1-4 p.m.) on undercard races. Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, with a 6:14 p.m. post time, highlights 14 races that kick off at 11:30 a.m.
Grade 3 Gotham winner Iron Honor drew post position 9 and is the 9-2 morning line favorite. The son of 2016 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist is trained by Chad Brown and will have Flavien Prat aboard for the first time.
Iron Honor is co-owned by St. Elias Stable, William H. Lawrence, and Glassman Racing. The bay colt could provide St. Elias Stable with a second classic victory this year after their homebred Golden Tempo won the Kentucky Derby.
In his last start, Iron Honor was seventh in the G2 Wood Memorial. Finishing ahead of him that day were Ocelli and Napoleon Solo, who will compete in the Preakness.
Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Ocelli will try to break his maiden in the Preakness from post 2. The Whit Beckman trainee has gained some respect after the Kentucky Derby to be 6-1 on the morning line.
Tyler Gaffalione will ride for co-owners Ashley Durr, Anthony Tate, and Front Page Equestrian.
Gold Square’s 8-1 shot Napoleon Solo is the only G1 winner in the field and will break from post 10. Trained by Chad Summers, the son of Liam’s Map was fifth in both of his starts this year.
Paco Lopez will ride last year’s G1 Champagne victor.
Maryland-based trainer Brittany Russell could become the first female trainer to win the Preakness with her unbeaten charge Taj Mahal. The Federico Tesio winner drew the rail and is 5-1 on the morning line with Russell’s husband, Sheldon, in the irons.
Kentucky Derby alums Incredibolt (sixth) and Robusta (14th) drew posts 12 and 4, respectively.
