The Los Angeles Dodgers witnessed some roster makeovers during the Atlanta Braves series. Including Mookie Betts heading down to Triple-A in Oklahoma City. But Max Muncy and LA took a 7-2 Sunday defeat at the hands of Atlanta inside Chavez Ravine.
Muncy himself admitted his own struggles during the series officially won by the Braves 2-1.
“It’s kind of tough to compete when you’re trying to figure things out,” Muncy told reporters amid his struggles at the plate.
Muncy swung the bat four times on the day, but chipped one hit. That blast sailed 420 feet over to right field for the two-run home run.
However, that rip finally got the Dodgers on the scoreboard in avoiding the potential shutout. Atlanta responded by scoring two more runs in the ninth, including Matt Olson sending the ball flying over the wall.
Muncy is enduring an up-and-down campaign at the bat. He previously went hitless during the first two games of the Atlanta series. The multiple World Series winner smacked one hit against the Houston Astros on May 6, but struck out twice in that same game.
Muncy has combined to hit the baseball just six times during the month of May. The infielder is swinging at an average of .273 this season, which is slightly higher than last season’s .243 mark. But still he’s under the .300 mark this season for the defending champs.
It’s also a far different output in May compared to last month. Muncy swung with fury in April, becoming one of the more dangerous hitters for manager Dave Roberts and company. The 35-year-old even pounded nine home runs total before May arrived. Now he’s enduring a brief slump he must shake.
