The Los Angeles Dodgers have revealed the role newly acquired pitcher Eric Lauer will have with the team moving forward.
According to Jack Harris of the California Post, Lauer will start games for the Dodgers. Harris shared the news via X.
"Also, Brandon Gomes said Eric Lauer is actually going to start games for the Dodgers," Harris wrote. "Still TBD when he’ll slot in, but that will allow them to keep a six-man rotation for the time being."
Adding Lauer to the rotation means the Dodgers will keep a six-man rotation for the time being.
Dodgers take chance on Eric Lauer after Blue Jays exit
The Dodgers acquired Lauer in a trade on Monday. He was traded to the Dodgers after the Toronto Blue Jays DFA'd him after a horrid start to the season.
In eight appearances this season, Lauer has recorded a 1-5 record with a 6.69 ERA and a -0.5 bWAR. Not only was his performance reason to cut ties with him, but so was his attitude. Lauer butted heads with manager John Schneider multiple times throughout the season, which made it easier for the team to move on from him.
The Dodgers' pitching staff has dealt with major injuries to their top players. Blake Snell is out with an elbow injury, and Tyler Glasnow is on the injured list with a back injury.
With Lauer in the mix, the Dodgers are more than happy to go back to a six-man rotation. On top of that, Lauer could also factor into the team's bullpen plans, which is another area Los Angeles has struggled with on the injury front.
Lauer is likely to start after the Dodgers come back from their six-game road trip.
