Arsenal could win the league tomorrow if Manchester City slip up after a narrow home win over already-relegated Burnley.
You'd expect the Premier League leaders to put in a swashbuckling performance against an already-relegated Burnley, but this was a low quality, nervy affair at the Emirates Stadium.
Belgian forward Leandro Trossard was responsible for one of the quality moments early on when he found space on the edge of the area but saw his effort bounce of Max Weiss' right-hand post.
The home side wanted a foul for a potential foul on Bukayo Saka with 36 minutes gone in the game but took the lead just a minute later anyway. Again, it was another exceptional Saka corner delivery that allowed Kai Havertz to rise highest and head home.
In a season of notably poor refereeing decisions, the decision from VAR not to send Paul Tierney back to the monitor to have another look at Havertz's tackle on Lesley Ugochukwu will rank very highly.
Havertz's tackle was high and from behind on the Burnley player with an on-field decision of a yellow card clearly not the sufficient punishment for that type of tackle. However, the forward escaped further punishment and was hooked by Mikel Arteta soon afterwards.
The introduction of Viktor Gyökeres did seem to add some more attacking dynamic, and some excellent hold up play up front, although Arsenal were far happier to time waste against the team that has conceded more goals than anyone all season.
The more surprising fact about that time wasting over a desire to go for a second was that Burnley offered very little themselves going forward. Indeed, of the first seven minutes of added time there was hardly a ball kicked until over three minutes into it with two Gunners players down injured as well as a double substitution.
The only thing the Clarets could muster was a long throw that the Arsenal defence easily dealt with.
Of course, what really matters at the end is points and these were three huge points for Arsenal that could – potentially – see them clinch the title tomorrow.
