Takeaways from the WR rankings

  • With the A.J. Brown trade seeming inevitable at this stage, fantasy managers have begun adjusting to the new landscape in the Eagles’ offense. DeVonta Smith’s ADP has moved into the third round as the WR13 and for good reason. Smith will be the No. 1 target for Jalen Hurts in 2026 and could easily push for fantasy WR1 status this season. Don’t underestimate his teammate Makai Lemon, though. The rookie fell further than expected, lasting until the 20th pick when the Eagles traded up to get him. However, that shouldn’t overshadow the opportunity he’ll have this season and beyond. Lemon’s skillset as a scrappy playmaker who’s dangerous all over the field will be a welcome addition. His toughness and contested-catch ability will be evident from the jump and he’s a threat to rack up yards after the catch. There’s a reason why so many people compare him to Amon-Ra St. Brown, who’s been a productive player ever since he entered the league. I’m viewing Lemon as a potential fantasy WR3 in Year 1.

  • Not only did Carnell Tate get excellent draft capital with the fourth pick overall, the 21-year-old is also the only first-round receiver who landed on a depth chart where he’ll immediately be the No. 1 option in his passing attack. Other rookie wideouts like Jordyn Tyson, Lemon and KC Concepcion could compete for a featured role in their new offenses, but Tate has it already. Given the talent and volume Tate will command, he belongs in the low-end fantasy WR2 conversation, which is where I have him ranked (WR24).

  • Rashee Rice is looking like an excellent target in the early rounds of this year’s fantasy drafts now that we know the league has no plans to discipline him this season and the Chiefs passed on drafting a receiver on Day 1 or 2. Despite only suiting up for eight contests last season, Rice was the WR5 in fantasy points per game and served as a focal point of the Chiefs’ passing attack. We saw similar results in 2024 when he averaged the third-most fppg and sixth-most targets over the first three outings before getting hurt and during his rookie campaign when he was a top-15 producer over his final 10 appearances. Barring another off-field situation popping up, Rice is set to be a fantasy WR1 once again.

  • Malik Nabers’ fantasy outlook for 2026 is unclear after he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in late September. A full meniscus repair extends Nabers’ recovery timeline. Even though the target is for him to be back before training camp, we know players and teams can be overly optimistic about when injured stars will return to the field. Considering what the Giants did so far this offseason — adding a collection of pass-catchers including Isaiah Likely, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III and Malachi Fields — they might be planning for Nabers to be less than 100% or possibly even miss time at the start of the season. When healthy, Nabers has top-five upside at his position, but he’ll need to be monitored all offseason to see if he can get back to WR1 form for Week 1.
