The Chicago Sky came away with their third win of the season on Sunday despite missing the services of veteran guard Skylar Diggins.

The 35-year-old Smith was ruled out for the matchup at Target Center in Minneapolis due to an eye injury, as reported before the contest by Annie Costabile of The Athlteric.

“Skylar Diggins (eye) downgraded to OUT ahead of the Sky’s game against the Lynx,” Costabile shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft suffered the injury during Friday’s game and 91-83 loss at the hands of the the Phoenix Mercury at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix. She scored zero points on 0-for-5 shooting from the field, grabbed two rebounds and dished out three assists in 12 minutes before getting forced out of the contest by the injury in the second quarter.

Nevertheless, the Sky managed to keep their boat afloat against the Lynx even without the seven-time WNBA All-Star.

Rookie Gabriela Jaquez stepped up and delivered the goods for the Sky, scoring 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting in the Lynx takedown, while Rachel Banham came off the bench and supplied Chicago with 13 points.

The Sky also lost leading scorer Rickea Jackson in the meeting with the Lynx because of an injury, so there is the possibility that Chicago could be without two key players for at least their next game.

Up ahead for the 3-1 Sky is a date with Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Wednesday.
