The New York Yankees gave Spencer Jones his first cup of coffee in Major League Baseball over the weekend, and while the big left-handed slugger struggled a bit, it was an exciting time for the fan base.
Everybody knows what Jones needs to figure out at this level, and it's really about him just cutting down on his swing-and-miss problems. That's much easier said than done, especially when guys are throwing at the level they do in Major League Baseball, but getting him at-bats at the highest level is going to help fix that rather than add to the problem.
We're likely going to see a lot of strikeouts early on if he stays up, but if the Yankees believe he has a future with them, they need to get the young man some at-bats.
While Jones didn't really make any history due to his play, he actually helped the Yankees and Major League Baseball make history. According to ESPN, he and Aaron Judge became the first duo with two 6-foot-7 position players on the roster in Major League Baseball history.
“His promotion also brings the Yankees into uncharted territory, height-wise. Jones and reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge are both 6-foot-7, which marks the first time in MLB history a team has had two position players that height on its roster at the same time, according to MLB researcher Sarah Langs. New York has the second-tallest lineup in the majors, just behind the Baltimore Orioles,” ESPN wrote.
Jones and Judge have been compared in the past, but mainly only because of their height. Now, if Jones can swing the bat as Judge has, things will be very fun.
