As it has been the norm of late, Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany’s press conference did not focus too much on the topic of the weekend’s Bundesliga opponent, FC Köln.
Instead, there were a lot more bigger picture items discussed, but the manager did briefly talk about the game against the Billy Goats.
“They are very strong on the counter and also an emotional club that brings a lot of fans. We won’t forget that and we want to have a positive experience, which requires energy and concentration. We will approach this task like any other and do everything to win the game,” Kompany said (as captured by @FCBayern).
Kompany wants a strong effort and a win so he can celebrate the Bundesliga season after the match. The coach feels like the group deserves it.
“Every season begins with the hope of lifting the trophy again. It’s also always nice to have family there, everyone who has supported us throughout the season. So I’m really looking forward to the weekend,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
As for his lineup, Kompany did not give out many hints, but did address the goalkeeper and central midfield positions.
“Manu will start. But Jonas will have many other chances to start against Köln [his home club] in the future,” said Kompany. “Leon Goretzka will start tomorrow. But it’s not a gift [because it’s his last game at Allianz Arena]. He deserved it for his performances and what he experienced with the team over the years.”
Finally, Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that there will be a pregame ceremony to honor Goretzka and the two other players who are definitely leaving, Raphaël Guerreiro and Nicolas Jackson:
Bayern will bid farewell to Leon Goretzka, Raphaël Guerreiro and Nicolas Jackson before tomorrow’s game against Köln. All three players will receive flowers and a collage before kick-off in front of 75,000 fans at Allianz Arena.
