Stan Wawrinka won’t be needing his wildcard for the French Open this year.
Wawrinka, who plans to retire from tennis at the end of the 2026 season, has had a storied career that included a title at Roland Garros.
As a former champion, he was initially given one of the eight wildcards into the men’s singles draw. But he was also just one withdrawal away from getting straight into the tournament.
Lorenzo Musetti’s decision to pull out cleared a spot for him, and now organisers have named his replacement for the wildcard entry.

Stan Wawrinka has secured direct entry into the French Open, and his wildcard has gone to Clement Tabur.
Tabur, 26, recently hit a career-high ranking of 167. He’s also a former junior Australian Open doubles champion but is still looking for his first singles win at senior level.
Tabur earned a spot in the main draw last year after coming through qualifying at Roland Garros, but he lost in the first round to Corentin Moutet.
This year he joins the draw without having to qualify, joining other wildcards like Gael Monfils, Moise Kouame, Hugo Gaston, Arthur Gea, Titouan Droguet, Nishesh Basavareddy and Adam Walton.
How Musetti’s French Open withdrawal will impact his ATP ranking
Tabur is getting a big opportunity with his wildcard, but for Musetti, the injury only adds to what’s already been a tough spell.
He was up a set on eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, before eventually losing in four sets.
Musetti has also dropped out of the top 10 after losing points from last year’s clay season and could fall outside the top 15 once he loses another 800 points from Roland-Garros.
Musetti will be sidelined until at least the start of the grass season before he can look to start climbing back up again.
