Dynamo Dresden started the last matchday of the 2. Bundesliga campaign with relegation concerns, but they have now ended the season in 11th place. A 2-1 win over Holstein Kiel helped them to go past their guests in the final league standings.
Vincent Vermeij scored both goals in the first-half on the day his former club Fortuna Düsseldorf got relegated to 3. Liga. The Dutch striker finished the campaign with 11 goals after a strong second half of the season.
Alexander Bernhardsson saw his penalty-kick saved by Tim Schreiber in first-half injury-time. Kiel did pull one back ten minutes before time as Phil Harres also reached double digits for goals.
With results elsewhere favoring them, Dresden were spared from a last-day tension. Instead, the fans applauded Stefan Kutschke for his four-year stint at the club as the 37-year-old striker retired from football.
