The Buffalo Sabres needed a win in Game 6 to continue their season. And when in doubt, this team looks to captain Rasmus Dahlin to lead the way. He did just that on Saturday night, helping Buffalo force a Game 7 back south of the border.
Dahlin scored 32 seconds into Game 6 against the Montreal Canadiens. He ended up adding four assists to help the Sabres claim a 8-3 win. Jack Quinn was also clutch, scoring two important goals and adding an assist of his own.
After Dahlin’s opening goal, things did not go well for Buffalo. Montreal scored on each of its first three shots of the game. The Sabres did bring it back, though, making it 3-2 before the intermission.
In a reversal from a series-long trend, Buffalo was the dominant team in the second period. The Sabres scored within the first minute when Zach Benson batted a loose puck into the net on his backhand. They went on to score another two goals in the middle frame to make it 5-3 at the end of the second.
Buffalo kept it going in the third period. Quinn scored his second of the game to give his team added breathing room. And they added goals from Tage Thompson and rookie defenseman Zach Metsa to put a bow on the win.
The Canadiens and Sabres will now head back to Buffalo for an all-important Game 7 at the KeyBank Center. The winner of this contest will move on to the Eastern Conference Finals. There, the winning team will take on Logan Stankoven and the Carolina Hurricanes.
