The San Antonio Spurs are heading into the Western Conference Finals with confidence, but Victor Wembanyama knows the Oklahoma City Thunder present a completely different challenge in the NBA Playoffs. After eliminating the Timberwolves in six games, the Spurs now face a Thunder squad that has not lost a single postseason game.
The Thunder swept both the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers while dominating statistically on both ends of the floor. Still, Wembanyama sounded calm and focused while discussing the upcoming West Finals showdown.
“We know it’s gonna be a whole different series,” Wembanyama said. “This is a team [OKC] that knows how to play basketball. They know their stuff. Will watch all their games and do the scouting and try to execute over there in Game 1.”
That respect comes with good reason. During the regular season, the Spurs held a 4-1 edge over Oklahoma City. San Antonio averaged 114.4 points per game against the Thunder while shooting 47 percent from the field. The Thunder scored 109.2 points per game in those matchups. But playoff basketball changes everything. Faster rotations. Sharper adjustments. Bigger pressure under the stadium lights.
Spurs preparing for Thunder playoff machine
The Thunder looked nearly unstoppable against the Lakers in the semifinals. Oklahoma City averaged 119.8 points, 38.3 rebounds, and 26 assists per game while shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range. Their pace overwhelmed opponents repeatedly.
The Spurs have been just as explosive lately. San Antonio averaged 120.7 points and 50.2 rebounds per game against Minnesota. Victor Wembanyama dominated the series with 19.8 points, 12 rebounds, and 4.2 blocks per game while shooting efficiently from everywhere on the floor. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year continues building his superstar playoff resume.
Now another massive moment arrives. The NBA will reveal the MVP award before the series begins, adding even more drama to an already loaded matchup.
Thunder or Spurs. Undefeated dominance or rising greatness. Which young powerhouse survives the NBA Playoffs West Finals clash?
