The Battle of the Blues will see Manchester City face Chelsea on Saturday as the FA Cup final takes center stage at Wembley. The oldest tournament in club soccer will be won by one of these Premier League powerhouses as Chelsea caretaker boss Calum McFarlane takes on managerial icon Pep Guardiola in only his sixth game as a head coach.
This will be City’s fourth consecutive appearance in the FA Cup decider, though the Citizens will be hoping to make up for the pain caused by their back-to-back losses over the last two years. Chelsea currently holds the record for successive FA Cup final defeats after losing three in a row between 2020 and 2022, but it can drag Guardiola & Co down to its level this weekend.
City is still fighting on two fronts as it strains to overcome Arsenal at the Premier League summit, sitting two points behind with two games left to play. Chelsea’s situation is a lot more dire, however, as winning the FA Cup to qualify for next term’s Europa League could be the club’s best route back into Europe next term, with the Blues currently ninth in the league after sacking manager Liam Rosenior.
All eyes are on whether City talisman Rodri will be fit to feature in London after missing the last four games with a groin injury. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez will hope to return at Wembley following a concussion suffered against Nottingham Forest.
Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho are also nearing returns to fitness, while the season appears to be over for the wing duo of Estevao and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
