The Vegas Golden Knights haven’t been past the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since winning their inaugural championship back in 2022-23 — but they have a prime opportunity to get one step closer to their ultimate goal on Thursday night.
The Knights lead the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 following a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 5 on Tuesday, and they’ll look to silence their Pacific Division rivals at the Honda Center in Game 6.
With Brayden McNabb suspended one game for a dirty check he threw on Ducks forward Ryan Poehling — which has the forward out indefinitely — the Knights will make one change to their defense for the contest.
Dylan Coghlan will move up to the top pairing to skate alongside star Shea Theodore, who will play on the left side for the first time since November of 2024, per The Athletic’s Jesse Granger.
Kaeden Korczak will re-enter the lineup to skate on the third pairing with Ben Hutton, while Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin will remain together. Korczak hasn’t played since a 3-1 loss in Game 2.
The forwards will stay the same, while Carter Hart will be between the pipes once again.
The netminder has been solid in the 2026 postseason, sporting a 2.49 goals-against average and .912 save percentage over 11 starts — seven of them wins.
It’s going to be a challenge for the Golden Knights, as the Ducks have never lost a Game 6 at home. They’re a perfect 7-0. Even if they lose, Vegas will still have home-ice advantage in a potential Game 7 on Saturday afternoon.
But the Knights would love to finish this series in six, and the Colorado Avalanche are awaiting the winner in the Western Conference Final. Vegas is 3-2 on the road in the postseason.
John Tortorella’s club was in a similar position in Round 1 against the Utah Mammoth, and made a statement in Game 6 of that series, beating Utah 5-1 in Salt Lake City.
They’ll be hoping that history repeats itself this time around against a Ducks team that is not going away. Puck is set to drop on the all-Pacific Division clash just past 9:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
