Napoli tempted by Maurizio Sarri but Antonio Conte keen on stay

Former Serie A champions Napoli could soon have a major decision to make, when it comes to their next manager. Antonio Conte could yet leave at the end of the season but doubts remain about what can really go down.

Sky Italia offer some details – via TMW.

They believe Conte is very keen on staying beyond the campaign. He wants to aim for the Scudetto next season, with his stance believed to be a bit surprising.

But Napoli may not share the same opinion. CEO Aurelio De Laurentiis is tempted by hiring Maurizio Sarri and is lured by the idea of starting a new project. For Conte, ADL appears keen on initially holding talks over what the ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager has in mind before keeping him simply on the basis of his own intentions.

As for Sarri, De Laurentiis is yet to figure out how to engineer his exit from Lazio. Things will become more clear as the weeks go by.

Keeping Conte makes more sense

As of now, only Inter are a real hallmark of stability in Serie A, where massive clubs struggle because they have jumped from one manager to another. Napoli wouldn’t want to be that and that is why keeping Conte will make sense.

He offers the guarantee of at least finishing inside the top four. Sarri’s appointment will bring about drastic changes to the system and recruitment strategy, making Napoli possibly struggle to make that change at a time when Inter need a viable contender for the title.

That is why backing Conte makes more sense.
