Patrick Beverley delivers highly controversial Victor Wembanyama elbow verdict

Much of the discussion after the Timberwolves’ Game 4 win over the Spurs centred on Victor Wembanyama and potential further discipline.

The Frenchman was ejected in the second quarter after elbowing Naz Reid, creating debate over whether the NBA should fine or suspend him.

Some believed extra punishment was needed, but Patrick Beverley saw the incident differently and actually praised Wembanyama’s edge.

Beverley, a former NBA guard now playing for PAOK in Greece, has never been shy about defending physicality and competitive fire.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, he said he liked Wembanyama’s response during the dispute with Reid and backed the NBA’s decision.

“I liked the elbow. F— that. Get off of me. I like that the NBA didn’t suspend him either. Don’t make it soft, we wanna see Wemby play,” the outspoken guard stated (via NBA Courtside).

Beverley’s point was clear: he believes the league should avoid over-policing its biggest stars when intensity spills into physical moments.

Beverley also went further, calling Wembanyama the best player in the NBA right now and praising his unique all-round skillset.

The guard said: “I’ll say this right off the rip: Wemby is the best player in the NBA. Without a doubt. I’ve never seen a prospect like this in my entire life. He’s a real alien.”

The 37-year-old pointed to Wembanyama’s all-round skills, as the Frenchman impresses with his defence, rebounding, three-point shooting and movement at his size.

After his 27 points and 17 rebounds in Game 5, the praise felt timely.
