Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards felt Victor Wembanyama delivered an otherworldly performance Tuesday night.
The Game 5 matchup of the 2026 Western Conference semifinals became a one-sided affair after four competitive games. Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs decimated the Timberwolves in a 126-97 victory at Frost Bank Center. The Spurs now hold a 3-2 series lead.
Wembanyama could do no wrong as he recorded 27 points and 17 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. The 22-year-old superstar shot 9-of-16 from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point range.
Edwards spoke to reporters after the game and got real about the loss. He noted the team felt helpless to stop the 7-foot-4 center.
“I mean, tonight, some of the stuff that Wemby was doing, you can’t — you don’t really have too much of an answer for it,” he said. “Just kind of hope he misses.”
Apart from scoring, Wembanyama did it all for head coach Mitch Johnson. The two-time All-Star tallied five assists and three blocks to anchor the Spurs on both ends of the floor.
There were serious concerns about his availability for Game 5. Wembanyama was ejected in Game 4 after striking Timberwolves center Naz Reid in the neck with an elbow. The league reviewed the Flagrant 2 foul on Monday and deemed the contact unnecessary but not worthy of a suspension.
His impact remained evident as the Spurs moved just one win away from the Western Conference finals. Wembanyama also received ample support from his teammates during the blowout.

2026 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson paced the bench with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. De’Aaron Fox added 18 points, five assists and four rebounds despite dealing with ankle soreness.
Edwards did his part for the Timberwolves by scoring 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. The Timberwolves must find a way to contain Wembanyama in Game 6 on Friday to stay alive.
