The Minnesota Timberwolves and the San Antonio Spurs are deadlocked in a very tight second-round playoff series, and things have gotten chippy between the two teams.

During Game 4, Spurs star Victor Wembanyama threw an elbow into the neck of Wolves big man Naz Reid, earning a Flagrant 2 foul and an early ticket to the showers. The NBA reviewed the play and determined there would be no further penalty for Wembnayama, who avoided a suspension for a pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday night.

Before the game back in San Antonio, Reid gave his take on the decision not to suspend Wembanyama.

“I’m happy,” Reid said. “I just want to be able to play a full, healthy team. Get a chance to compete against them at full capacity and make things happen and make things in our favor. I don’t really mind it, I don’t really care, I just want to hoop. I’m sure he just wants to hoop.”

Wembanyama is obviously crucial to the Spurs’ success, and San Antonio struggled to close out Game 4 on both ends of the floor without him. As a result, the Wolves got a critical 114-109 win to send the series back to the Alamo tied at two games apiece.

The former No. 1 overall pick is already the best defender in basketball, and he was recognized for that with a unanimous Defensive Player of the Year honor. He is also a surefire First Team All-NBA selection after a regular season that saw him average 25 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.

Wemby has made his mark on this series, even despite a tough Game 1 and a shortened Game 4 due to the ejection. In Game 3, he helped the Spurs get a critical road win in Minnesota with an iconic game, dropping 39 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks. Now, he will be fresh and rested heading into Game 5 as he looks to help the Spurs get back in front in this series.
