Estêvão excluded from provisional Brazil squad for World Cup — report

Estêvão’s World Cup dream looks to be over, with the young winger reportedly excluded from Brazil provisional squad. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will announce the final 26-man squad next week, but Estêvão’s already absent from the provisional list published by Globo Esporte today.

The list does include current Chelsea players João Pedro and Andrey Santos, as well as former Chelsea hero Thiago Silva (still at age 41!). JP is surely a lock to make the final squad while Santos and Silva are probably on the bubble right now. I’d take both of them in a heartbeat of course.

For young Steve-o, the decision is certainly a blow, but it was hardly unexpected after he suffered a severe hamstring strain a couple weeks ago. He’s tried everything in his power to recover from it quickly, but that was always going to be a losing battle. Best to focus on recovering fully in time for next season, as given the severity, that’s not certain to happen either.
