NBA legend Paul Pierce was not happy with the ongoing debate regarding Victor Wembanyama’s ejection during Game 4 of the West Semifinals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Wembanyama got an offensive foul call after throwing an elbow that struck Naz Reid early into the second quarter. After officials finished their video review of the hit, which caught Reid on the right side of his jaw and neck area and sent him spinning and crashing to the floor, referee Zach Zarba announced they upgraded the foul to a flagrant 2 for excessive contact above the neck. That penalty triggers an automatic ejection.

Pierce provided his thoughts on the ejection during his May 11 appearance on the No Fouls Given podcast. He called the decision to eject him soft as he referred to the elbow as an offensive foul back in his time in the league.

“In my day it’s just an offensive foul and we move on. In today everybody so soft you kick everybody out the game, oh he should be in jail for that elbow. Get that out of here, bro. It’s flagrant one let’s play on. Let’s play our best vs your best not let the refs dictate the series. All right here, give them some free throws let’s move on. Let them play,” Pierce said.

What lies ahead for Victor Wembanyama, Spurs

Paul Pierce can have his complaints toward Victor Wembanyama’s ejection from Game 4. Nonetheless, the star center is safe as he won’t have to worry about a suspension from any playoff games.

Wembanyama has enjoyed his best campaign to date with the Spurs, leading them back to their first playoffs since 2019. They will look to make their first West Finals since 2017, being two wins away from achieving that feat.

The Spurs will look to take back the series lead when they host the Timberwolves in a pivotal Game 5 clash. The contest commences on May 12 at 8 p.m. ET.
