Draymond Green did not hold back after Victor Wembanyama's first career ejection. The Warriors veteran fired off a pointed message on social media.
Wembanyama was ejected in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's 114-109 loss for elbowing Timberwolves center Naz Reid around the jaw. Reid and Jaden McDaniels had swarmed the NBA Defensive Player of the Year outside the paint.
Glenn Gilbertti, who competed in WCW as Disco Inferno, asked what the reaction would have been if Green was involved. Green responded quickly on X.
"Y'all have called for my career for less," Green responded. That single sentence lit up NBA social media within minutes.
The 4-time All-Star is a repeat offender. Midway through the 2023-24 season, he started counseling sessions while serving an indefinite suspension for striking Jusuf Nurkic.
Green has a long history of flagrant fouls, ejections, and suspensions. Fans flooded the replies with clips of past incidents. That includes stomping on Domantas Sabonis and punching teammate Jordan Poole.
His argument is simple. If Wembanyama gets light treatment for 1 elbow, why did he face career threats?
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that Wembanyama will not be suspended or fined for the flagrant foul. The NBA chose not to levy further penalties.
That decision may actually prove Green's point about different treatment for different players.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said after the loss that officials could do a better job protecting Wembanyama. He defended the 22-year-old's frustration throughout the series.
"Pain is weakness leaving the body, that's it," Reid told reporters about the elbow to his face.
It was Wembanyama's first ejection in his NBA career. The Timberwolves won 114-109, tying the Western Conference semifinal series at 2-2.
Game 5 heads to San Antonio on Tuesday. Wembanyama is cleared to play. Green will be watching from the couch, still making noise.
