Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese Break WNBA Records in Season Openers

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both played in their first game of the WNBA season on Saturday.

The Indiana Fever had an afternoon tipoff against the Dallas Wings, with Clark and Co. suffering a hard-fought 107-104 home loss to start off the campaign at 0-1.

Reese, on the other hand, made her regular-season debut for the Atlanta Dream following her offseason trade from the Chicago Sky. The two-time All-Star helped lead Atlanta to a 91-90 victory against the Minnesota Lynx.

Both Clark and Reese made history on Saturday, just hours apart.

The WNBA announced during the Fever-Wings game that Clark became the fastest player in league history to surpass 1,000 points, 250 rebounds and 250 assists. The former Rookie of the Year achieved the milestone in 54 games.

Clark logged 20 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two triples in the loss to Dallas.

Not to be outdone, Reese also rewrote the WNBA history books on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 forward marked her 50th career double-double after registering 11 points and 14 rebounds against the Lynx. She added two assists, two steals and three blocks in 32 minutes of action.

The WNBA announced after Atlanta’s win that Reese is the fastest player in league history to reach 50 career double-doubles.

It’s only fitting that two of the WNBA’s biggest stars both made history in their first games of the new campaign. If this is any indication of what the season holds for Clark and Reese, then fans certainly have a lot to look forward to in 2026.

The Fever will host the Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 4. This will be the first matchup between Clark and Reese this season. It will also be the first time Reese faces off against Indiana as a member of the Dream.
