Chelsea face Liverpool on Saturday hoping to end a horrible run of six consecutive Premier League defeats.

Calum McFarlane has been unable to inspire a turnaround in fortunes — barring an FA Cup semifinal win over Leeds United — since taking temporary charge of the first team following Liam Rosenior's dismissal.

Chelsea are mathematically out of the race for Champions League qualification and need a positive result against the Reds to keep alive their hopes of qualifying via the league for European competition of any sort.

The Sporting News brings you all the rest of the Blues' team news and injury updates.

Chelsea injury list

Below is the latest injury picture for Chelsea, including estimated return dates for those who are sidelined.

Alejandro Garnacho

  • Injury: Knock

  • Expected return date: May 16 (vs. Manchester City)

Garnacho suffered a knock prior to last week's loss to Nottingham Forest and is not available to face Liverpool. It is hoped he will be available for the FA Cup final.

Pedro Neto

  • Injury: Knock

  • Expected return date: May 16 (vs. Manchester City)

Neto also sustained a minor injury before the Forest match and, like Garnacho, will aim to return for the showdown with Manchester City at Wembley.

Robert Sanchez

  • Injury: Head

  • Expected return date: May 16 (vs. Manchester City)

Sanchez suffered a nasty clash of heads with Morgan Gibbs-White in the Forest defeat and will sit out the Liverpool match as part of concussion protocol.

Jesse Derry

  • Injury: Head

  • Expected return date: TBD

Derry was hospitalised with a head injury after a collision with Zach Abbott during his Premier League debut against Forest. McFarlane said he is not expected to play again this season, but he did stress that "the early signs are positive" in terms of Derry's recovery.

Estevao

  • Injury: Hamstring

  • Expected return date: June

Young winger Estevao pulled up lame after reaching for a ball early in the defeat to Manchester United in mid-April, and it was clear he could not continue. The Brazilian had only just returned from a prior hamstring injury, and the McFarlane confirmed before the FA Cu semifinal that he will miss the rest of the club season.

With the World Cup only a month away, Estevao will hope the injury is not significant enough to rule him out of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

Filip Jorgensen

  • Injury: Groin

  • Expected return date: TBD

Jorgensen suffered a groin injury in the first leg against PSG that required "minor" surgery. Rosenior said it is "a matter of weeks" in terms of his recovery time. He is expected to get a more specific timeline update once the March international break concludes. He missed the FA Cup quarterfinal against Port Vale, a game he was in line to start, and has not been back on the bench since, and there are now fresh concerns he could be sidelined the rest of the 2025/26 season.

Jamie Gittens

  • Injury: Hamstring

  • Expected return date: June/July

Gittens departed after 25 minutes in the comeback win over West Ham, having picked up a hamstring injury. Tests confirmed he had suffered a muscle tear. After a setback in training while hoping to return in late March, the young winger remained absent through the international break.

While there was a belief he could potentially return in mid-April, he suffered a setback in training just before the 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup, and a report by Dom Smith of The Standard has claimed that Chelsea are worried he may not return this season.

Chelsea suspension list

Mykhailo Mudryk

  • Suspension: Doping

  • Expected return date: Unknown

Ukraine international Mudryk has not been available for selection since December 2024 after failing a doping test. He was given a backdated four-year ban but is appealing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
