The New England Patriots are currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 season, a process that will continue with rookie minicamp later this week. The Patriots have battled controversies surrounding head coach Mike Vrabel throughout this offseason as they look to capitalize on last year’s trip to the Super Bowl.
Throughout the playoffs last year, there were concerns about quarterback Drake Maye’s shoulder, and he did not do much to quell them against the Seattle Seahawks, turning in one of the worst performances in recent Super Bowl history in a blowout loss.
However, now, Maye is assuring fans that things are just fine regarding his shoulder heading into next season.
“Nothing, nothing, no problems at all,” Maye said, clarifying that he did not need surgery for the injury, per the Associated Press, via ESPN.
Maye had a stellar regular season in 2025, earning some consideration for the league MVP award, but saw his production fall off a cliff once the playoffs rolled around, largely being carried by the New England defense en route to the Super Bowl, where things ended up falling apart for the Patriots against Seattle.
Still, Maye is widely regarded as one of the better young quarterbacks in the league, and he hopes to build off last year’s success in this upcoming season. Health will certainly be a big part of the equation.
Meanwhile, the Patriots have added some new weapons for him to work with, including wide receiver Romeo Doubs, and are expected to add AJ Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles via a trade later this offseason.
The Patriots’ schedule for the upcoming 2026 NFL season is slated to be released later this month.
