The University of Oregon is reportedly suing former defensive back Dakoda Fields for a “breach of contract over an outstanding balance tied to a settlement agreement,” per Reilly Norgren and Owen Murray of The Daily Emerald.
Fields joined the Ducks ahead of the 2024 season as a four-star recruit. He redshirted his first season and then played in just three games for Oregon in 2025. Fields opted to enter the transfer portal midseason and later committed to the University of Oklahoma this offseason, hoping to get more playing time with the Sooners.
When the defensive back decided he wanted to transfer, this created an issue around his NIL deal. Under his NIL contract, Fields reportedly needed to agree to essentially a buyout with the university in order to move on from the program.
Norgren and Murray reported that court documents from February show Fields and Oregon initially agreed to $39,882 in “release from liability relating to an underlying dispute.”

Later, that balance was adjusted with the university agreeing that if the DB made a payment of $29,882 on or before April 20, the remaining $10,000 would be waived.
Oregon’s complaint alleges that the discounted payment was not made by April 20 and that a remaining balance of $10,000 remains. The University is also asking for interest at a 9% rate that has accumulated since April 21.
Fields’ agent Bardia Ghahremani didn’t respond to requests for comment from The Daily Emerald.
