Bayern Munich has an incredible season so far and could be on the verge of securing a domestic double, if it can beat VfB Stuttgart for the fourth time this season on Saturday in the DFB-Pokal.
One thing that still might bother some fans, however, is the sense that the squad could have (or should have) done more in the Champions League where it was ousted in the semifinals by Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern Munich’s 2001 UCL-winning captain Stefan Effenberg was at Allianz Arena for a ceremony before Saturday’s 5-1 win over FC Köln and said that the team will need to spend more money to get that elusive Champions League title.
“For this team, there are two points remaining this season: to win [against Köln] with a professional performance and then to win the DFB Pokal again after six years. Next year, we need to invest a bit more to bring the Champions League trophy back to Munich,” Effenberg told Abendzeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Effenberg is not wrong. While a very strong core group is in place, a few tweaks to the roster could go a long way in Europe next season.
