San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama found out where he finished in the rankings for the 2025-26 NBA MVP race on Sunday.
Wembanyama is going through the third season with the Spurs and the first postseason of his career. It didn’t take long for him to go up the ranks with his dominant playstyle, shining as one of the best players in the league.
Wembanyama’s remarkable efforts this season already saw him earn the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award. It was the cherry on top for him to finish inside the top three of voting for the annual MVP award as well.
Wembanayama didn’t end up winning MVP this year, seeing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander take the honors for the second consecutive season. Nikola Jokic finished at second place, while Wembanyama rounded out the trio at third place. The Spurs star racked up five first-place votes, 36 second-place votes, 47 third-place votes, 10 fourth-place votes, and two fifth-place votes to finish with 569 total points.
“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received 83 1st place votes to win the 2025-26 MVP, the NBA has announced. Nikola Jokic finished 2nd place in voting, with 10 1st place votes, followed by Victor Wembanyama, who claimed 5 1st place votes 🍿,” the post read.
What lies ahead for Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
Victor Wembanyama is earning his stripes as one of the best young stars in the league. The Spurs are greatly benefitting from it as they are now in the Western Conference Finals.
Wembanyama’s third season in San Antonio proved to be an incredible success. In the 64 games he took part in, he averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 3.1 blocks, and one steal per game. He boasted shooting splits of 51.2% from the field, including 34.9% from beyond the arc, and 82.7% from the free-throw line. In the playoffs, he is producing 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.1 blocks, and 2.4 assists per contest.
The Spurs will look forward to their journey in the West Finals, enjoying a great matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Game 1 of that series will take place on May 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
