Jason Heyward Joins Dodgers' Front Office

He's been absent from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization since 2024, but 16-year veteran Jason Heyward has found his way back to Chavez Ravine.

The Dodgers hired the 36-year-old Heyward to their front office as a special assistant.

“I have a goal of potentially one day being in the front office," Heyward told Jack Harris of The California Post.

Heyward's interest in a front office role derived during his final seasons in the MLB.

From there, that is where his interest was the highest on the intricacies on how to run a ball club.

More specifically, he was enamored with how the Dodgers' front office operated, which pushed him even more for his return to Los Angeles.

Following his retirement after the 2025 season, Heyward told Harris that he reached out to multiple teams for a potential front office position. But it was the Dodgers that carved the way for a better opportunity to learn.

"Everyone wants to move toward the same goal, and everyone has a different perspective on what that looks like and how it can be done," Heyward said.

Heyward's responsibility will range from helping out in the Major League front office to the Minor League affiliates.

The former World Series winner said that the Dodgers have given him an opportunity to act as a consultant to the younger players in the organization.

At the same time, he also believes that it is important that he picks up other skills that could be helpful for his pursuit of having a full-time front office gig.

"I think it's important to learn scouting, how to evaluate players and analytics terminology," Heyward said.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts displayed his excitement of Heyward's return during the Dodgers' pregame media scrum on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.

“I’m excited for Jason to be back in the organization," Roberts said.

In terms of future goals for the former All-Star, he says that he see's himself as a general manager or as a president of baseball operations role.

The sky is the limit for Heyward, but for the meantime, he is just grateful to learn in his second life of baseball.

“I understand there’s a lot I have to learn on this side of things,” Heyward said. “It’s great to be a player, it’s great to have that experience."
